East Coast Martinique 2

5th January
At about midday we set off to look at the archetypal desert island Loup Garou. The island was desert as we approached and then just before we arrived two motor boats sped in from nowhere landing a large party of tourists.

The plan was to anchor at Ilet Thiery for the night but when we got there neither James on Hepzibah or myself fancied it given the weather conditions. Visibility was poor and regular squalls were coming though. The squalls often come in a line as the picture below shows.

After a bit of discussion we decided to carry on to Ile Petite Grenade, not too far away. This involved going in between two reefs and then over shallows, this is alway a bit tense when you have the wind behind. Hepzibah lead the way and successfully found the gap. You could clearly see the reefs on either side as we entered between the waves. The entrance was then very shallow but we found an excellent spot tucked around the corner. We were the only two boats there during our two night stay but day tripper boats did visit during the day.

With the weather due to get a lot more windy in the coming days we decided to leave our lovely spot and head back to St Anne. The trip started under motor but ended in a good sail. Once back in St Anne we made some water and did jobs from our list.
